about

What you have before you is a collection of straight-up pop-rock songs, with influences spanning from 60s A.M. radio, Heartland and AOR Rock, and some '70s West Coast Singer-Songwriter flavors. I hope it flows for you. As I say, I'm a Walking White Album, so though it's kind of stylistically diverse, I feel that my particular way of doing things holds it all together. You know - just like John, Paul, George and Ringo. Exactly like that :)

That's me with The Buckinghams on the cover photograph. They were one of my favorite '60s bands; the essence of the 'little-more-than-one-hit-wonder' kinds of bands that I loved, and if you don't know, they were the first brainchild/product of the great arranger producer (and horn section user) James William Guercio - he of band 'Chicago' fame. I'm honored to ZELIG my way into their most defining photograph.

Of some note:

Chris Arduser's honorary appearance on this collection (I try and feature him at least once each time out, as he was my most intimate musical collaborator and friend for many years) is on 'Wild Lover's Sunset,' and he's always excellent when I'm doing my growling heartland anthems. He's the greatest drummer ever.

'Mystic Chords of Memory' was produced by Brad Jones in Nashville, who also arranged the tune and played a lot of stuff on it (see below). Brad went on to produce a bunch of cool things, including Marshall Crenshaw's 'Miracle of Science.'

'Like a Fountain' is the only outtake from my Passport/Paradox/Polygram album from 1987, 'Long Distance Calling.' I can't remember exactly why we left it off. I think the label owner felt it was too far from the power pop of the rest of the album. I thought it was a change-up ballad, but again - I allows myself to be broader than might be wise.

So what you have here in your hands is forty-five minutes of melodic rock 'n' roll from the old school way of doing things. Enjoy.
