about

The second Kent Liverpool collection's ten songs put the focus on the rush of new love - that first year and a half when you've met someone exciting, and feel that they may be 'the one.' It chronicles the ups and downs, the thrills and fights, the warmth and joy, the heartache and the insecurity. Highlights are beautiful power ballad 'Meant to Be,' the absurdly enthusiastic 'You Saved My Life,' the strife-filled Motown pastiche 'We Don't Live in Eternity,' the big-crush explosion that is 'She Stops the Traffic,' and Kent's power-pop cover of the classic Carol King, Gerry Goffin & Phil Spector composed  'For Once in My Life,' which was a hit for the Righteous Brothers in 1965. The song was reputedly dashed off in hopes of emulating the charms of the previous year's glorious 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling,' and though it probably falls short of that (what wouldn't?) it's got a bounty of charm in its own right.

This album is fun from start to finish, and I hope you'll check it out.

For fans of The Lovin' Spoonful, The Grassroots, Marshall Crenshaw, Bryan Adams, Fountains of Wayne, Teenage Fanclub, Todd Rundgren, Wallflowers, Cheap Trick, Del Amitri. and all things am radio pop-rock circa 1965-1987.
